This is unreal. Sean was asking me over the weekend if he could obtain the audio from a project I did a long time ago (ZenClock) and I said sure. Well, turns out that I forgot that project was lost in a HD crash quite a while ago and all I have are the last compiled protected Director files, which I can't open up at all.

So I was fooling around to see if I could coax them out of there and saw that apparently at some point in the past I had created some hack attempt to get the scripts and audio again so I could recreate it. Well, it appears I failed then as well because it didn't work any better this time. So I decide to hit up google and typed in “extract director protected movies”, sans the quotes. And what turns up first?

DIRECT-L archives — October 1999, week 4 (#279)

Unfuckingbelievable!!! October 27, 1999, a post from ** ME ** to a director list-serv about a different topic where the end result was an unexpected way to hack and extract a director movie that's possibly protected.

Dude… my head seriously just lost cabin pressure and I went into that “I'm perpetually falling forward” feeling without actually moving. The one where you feel like your head is going to hit the desk if you don't sit up, which of course just makes you feel like accelerating…. or maybe that's just something weird that happens to me. Of course, I remember doing all of this now, but at the time I couldn't believe what I was reading since I had no recollection of previously having figured this out.
