A great disturbance
It's been nearly a week now, and it still seems nearly incomprehensible with what happened as a result of the tsunami. Every day the toll seems to rise yet another 25,000 and it would seem it shows no sign of slowing down. Part of me is amazed at the outpouring of support from the entire world to take a timeout and help with relief. From the constant news on tv about how you can visit sites on the internet to donate, to seeing sites like Apple, Amazon, Google and even Microsoft fill their splash pages with how-to's and links to pages to donate support. However, another part is even sadder knowing that it won't last for long before people try to forget it and move on, leaving it as someone else's problem while getting back to business as usual. I believe that in every disaster like this there is a massive potential as a race to be able to step forward in realizing that this is our home as well, even if it is half a world away. That the people affected are in some way connected to you more than you may know it. I only hope that we can learn to put down the politics that are already rearing their head in this mess and just get to the heart of the matter and not try to make a profit or name out of it.
If you haven't seen the image of what washed ashore recently in one of the towns affected, you might want to see that photo. It's one of those that is just wrong on so many levels, but it really drives home what happened, what is continuing to happen, and just plain leaves you in shock and your heart crying out for those that live there. I've linked up the photo in the extended in case you don't really want to see it or accidentally see it.
