first injury
There was a slight mailbox malfunction today. As I was making the rounds through some apartment complexes, some that aren't in the greatest condition mind you, one of the mailboxes that used to be in the wall fell out of the wall and took part of my pinky with it. Immediately it was one of those “oh my god, what just happened?!” and I seek to figure out if I'm ok. One look at my hand and I can tell it's gonna be ugly in about 2 seconds, and sure enough, there came the blood. I didn't have much time to piece it together, but it appears one of the edges caught my hand on it's way to the ground and sliced from my middle knuckle on the right pinky to about the fingernail and then the height of the finger. So take that 1/4 inch flab of skin on the outer side, deep to about to the bone, and it was just hanging off.
Ouch….
Then I tried to contain the blood. Luckily, someone came out and I asked them for a paper towel while another one came out and then got me a couple bandaids. A couple more minutes of that, I cleaned up, separated the bloodied up mail, put the heap of crap back in the wall and finished up the swing as best I could. Then I high tailed it back to base to report it all and try to clean up. I seriously still didn't know how bad it was, so after taking the bandage off to take a look, the supervisor told me to get to the urgent care immediately as my finger began to gush again.
So off to there, sign in, wait, and an hour later have 6 stitches in my finger that is now wrapped in a gigantic piece of gauze and gel. Let me tell you, that was disgusting, and all those nerves in your fingers let me feel quite a bit of it.
So, I can't really work much tomorrow, although I'm heading in to at least try and do some simple work here and there for however long it lasts. And then I get to keep the stitches in for another 7-10 days. This will leave a wonderful scar.
