Go to jail?
Seriously, it would be an amazing thing to see all the something something associations just up and disappear. Just who the hell do they think they are taking law in to their own hands? At some point, enough is enough I say and I'm sure plenty of others will think the same. The latest batch is going to be an attack on tablatures and lyrics, and they want to put you in prison for hosting them. Apparently they're still bitter over the Xerox machine and it's taken them 10 years now to pull their head out of their asses and notice that there's this thing called the internet that lets you view information immediately from any place at any time. WOW! Let's get to suing and make some money!
Pretty soon you'll have some nutjob corporation claiming they created html and we all owe them nickel.
The more I think about this, the more it just irks me. Corporations have ruined far too much in the arts. This really goes against the whole spirit of music. How can music spread and grow if I deprive the next generation or next person attempting to learn how to play the guitar of their ability to grab a tab of U2's latest guitar lick? Let's say there's someone out there that is a virtuoso and can see the notes by hearing them. He writes it down about 2 days after the CD is released and puts it on his site for others to see because there's no way in hell it's going to appear anywhere else for the foreseeable future. Suddenly you have perhaps 50 kids jumping all over it to learn how to play it so they can impress their friends maybe. What if that tab introduced them to a whole new realm of music theory they never would have attained by themselves and sends them down this wonderful path of music enlightenment? Well, we may have just killed our next Beethoven, Satch or whoever.
Stupid. Plain and simple and it was all about greed. Fuck the betterment of this race, I want my $2.
